YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAMS ACROSS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TO BENEFIT FROM OVER $960,000 IN LA84 FOUNDATION GRANTS
LOS ANGELES – (April 15, 2021) – The LA84 Foundation announces more than $960,000 in grants to Southern California school-based and community youth sports organizations for its spring grant cycle. The LA84 Foundation is being responsive to its grantees in providing support for their evolving needs as organizations contend with the long-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The LA84 Foundation’s commitment to Play Equity is also demonstrated in the range of the grants announced today. Funding is dedicated to:
- School-based programs to support kids in the places where they spend most of their time,
- Field refurbishment for improved playing conditions and increased safety for participants,
- Coaching/instructor education to develop healthier and more engaged young people,
- To continue to contribute and support the expansion of meaningful sports opportunities for young people with physical disabilities.
“We’re moving into spring with optimism and hope, and we recognize many of these organizations have been through a year that was defined by enormous challenges,” said Renata Simril, President & CEO of the LA84 Foundation. “Our grant making reflects that to respond with flexibility to the needs of our partners while supporting the programs and facilities they provide to young people.”
The LA84 Foundation believes no child should be excluded from access to sports or structured play opportunities and begin a cycle of lower expectations and frustration. Despite these efforts, over recent decades a gap between the children who have access to participate and those who cannot has continued to grow. This is the Play Equity gap. As advocates, the LA84 Foundation and its partners continue to address these issues with all facets of our work.
