Youngsters at Lennox Park Receive a Dodgers Dreamfield
The grey clouds did not dampen the spirits of the boys and girls who gathered to be the first to play at the latest Dodgers Dreamfield at Lennox Park. The Dreamfield, dedicated on April 26, 2012 was created in partnership between the LA84 Foundation the Dodgers Dream Foundation and the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation.
Joining the youngsters at the dedication ceremony were Anita L DeFrantz, LA84 Foundation President, Howard Sunkin, Senior Vice President, Los Angeles Dodgers and Russ Guiney, Director, County of Los Angeles, Department of Parks and Recreation. PRIME TICKET Spanish-language broadcaster Jorge Jarrín hosted the event.
Dodger alumni Kenny Landreaux, Wes Parker, Derrel Thomas and Fernando Valenzuela were in attendance. Due to the wet conditions on the field, the players who were scheduled to do on the field clinics instead gave chalk talks and signed autographs for youngsters from Moffett Elementary, Huerta Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, Bufford Elementary and Lennox Middle School.
“The LA84 Foundation is pleased to have partnered with the Dodgers Dream Foundation and the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation to create a Dreamfield at Lennox Park. We believe every youngster who wishes to participate in a sport should have the opportunity to do so in the best facilities available. Youngsters who play baseball at Lennox Park now have the perfect field in which to practice and perfect their baseball skills,” said LA84 Foundation President Anita L. DeFrantz. “It took teamwork to build this field and we know that youngsters who play on it will also learn how teamwork in and outside the field of play creates success.”
“The Dodgers Dream Foundation’s Dreamfield program has been a tremendous success,” said Dodgers Senior Vice President Howard Sunkin. “We’re pleased that the legacy we established with the Dreamfield program will move forward under the new ownership group of the Los Angeles Dodgers who have agreed to build the remaining 25 fields to reach our goal of 50 Dodgers Dreamfields in Greater Los Angeles.”
Field improvements at Lennox Park’s Dodgers Dreamfield include a refurbished chain link backstop, new dugout roofs, refurbished irrigation system, regrading in outfield for proper drainage, new infield mix, new sod in outfield, new solar powered scoreboard and new field signage.
The number of Dodgers Dreamfields since the Doger’s initiated the program in 2003 will total 25 by Saturday, April 28, 2012. The LA84 Foundation has partnered with the Dodgers Dream Foundation to build 18 of these fields.
