LA84 FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES OLYMPIC DAY CELEBRATIONS AT 130 LAUSD ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOLS
The LA84 Foundation and over 11,000 students will celebrate Olympic Day 2018 by partnering with 130 of Beyond The Bell’s elementary and middle schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District that are open for summer programing. Each school will receive an activation package including a welcome letter, a LA84 banner, United States Olympic Committee (USOC) Olympic Day banner, instructions for team handball, and more! The schools will be celebrating on Friday, June 22. Officially, Olympic Day is Saturday, June 23. The overall theme of Olympic Day is for the children to Move, Learn and Discover.
Olympic Day is a celebration of the Olympic Movement and the joy of sport by millions of people around the world. An initiative stemming from the International Olympic Committee, Olympic Day was created in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games on June 23, 1894. Now, Olympic Day is celebrated on June 23 every year all over the world. The worldwide celebration aims to promote fitness, well-being, culture and education, while also observing the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect. The Olympic Day pillars – move, learn and discover – are promoted in every corner of the globe. Olympic Day creates opportunities for people to participate in sport across the globe regardless of age, gender or athletic ability.
“We are proud to provide young Angelenos the chance to learn, take part in, and be inspired by Olympic Day and the values it supports,” said Renata Simril, President and CEO of the LA84 Foundation. “Every day is Olympic Day for the LA84 Foundation, and this opportunity will positively change the lives of the youth that we serve. The LA84 Foundation’s goal, play for all, aims to get every child life ready through sports, regardless of zip code.”
