Rest In Peace, Terry Todd
Pioneering scholar, athlete, strength expert, NPR correspondent, Sports Illustrated writer, film maker, raconteur extraordinaire and friend of the LA84 Foundation Terry Todd died July 7, in Austin. Todd, who co-founded the Stark Center for Physical Culture and Sports at the University of Texas with his wife Jan Todd, worked in cooperation with the LA84 Foundation for 30 years, speaking at foundation conferences, exchanging library materials and providing a license to digitally publish Iron Game History: The Journal of Physical Culture in the LA84 digital library collection. Todd penned over 60 articles, often in partnership with Jan Todd, that appear in the LA84 Foundation digital library. His most-read piece is the 1987 “Anabolic Steroids: The Gremlins of Sport.” Todd’s work also is referenced in dozens of other articles.
More than 250 people attended a memorial service for Todd on the University of Texas campus on July 28.
As one longtime friend said upon learning of Terry passing: “It may seem that our world is a bit weaker today but actually we are all immeasurably and eternally stronger for having known him.”
