Grand Finale for LA84 Summer Swim Program
The LA84 Foundation’s Summer Swim Program concluded last weekend with the Dive and Synchronized Swimming Festivals. The festivals provided the young athletes with the opportunity to compete and display the skills they had learned in Summer Swim program at pools throughout Southern California.
Belmont Plaza in Long Beach hosted the Dive Festival on Saturday. The indoor venue was decked with LA84 banners and the stands were filled with parents, coaches and friends as 119 boys and girls competed in the 3-meter springboard. For many, this was their first major diving meet.
On Sunday, at the Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center more than 150 girls and boys danced in the water in solo, duet and team synchronized swimming competitions, surrounded by cheering parents and coaches.
The weekend activities marked the culmination of the 27th annual Summer Swim program. This summer more than 10,000 youngsters learned to swim, dive, play water polo and do synchronized swimming at 100 park pools in Los Angeles and surrounding cities.
