Coaches Complete Tackling Clinic
More than 280 high school and youth football coaches completed Coach Bobby Hosea’s tackling clinics this summer at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The clinics, which were sponsored by the LA84 Foundation, showed coaches how to teach young players to tackle using minimal head contact.
This year, 2012, marks the third year in which Hosea’s Train ‘Em Up Academy and the LA84 Foundation have partnered to train hundreds of coaches in the innovative technique. Hosea, a former UCLA and professional player, developed his Dip-N-Rip Sticks™ technique after volunteering to coach his son’s youth team. A small-scale pilot study funded in 2011 by LA84 found that Hosea’s method significantly reduced the tackler’s head impact, without diminishing the impact of the tackle on the target.
