LA84 Foundation and LA Dodgers Foundation Dedicate Improved Youth Baseball Fields at Highland Park Recreation Center
On Saturday, April 20, 2013 the LA84 Foundation in partnership with the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation and the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, dedicated two improved youth baseball fields at Highland Park Recreation Center in Los Angeles. The dedication was part of the opening day ceremonies for the 2013 Spring Youth Baseball and Softball League at Highland Park Recreation Center.
In attendance were the players and volunteer coaches representing the various teams playing in the league. Also attending were Renata Simril, Senior Vice President, Los Angeles Dodgers and Board Member, Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, Patrick Escobar, Vice Presidents Grants & Programs, LA84 Foundation, Jon Kirk Mukri, General Manager, Recreation and Parks, Ed P. Reyes, Councilmember, District 1 and Jimmy Gomez, Assemblymember, District 51. Councilman Reyes threw the ceremonial first pitch.
Dodger alumni Bobby Castillo, Tommy Davis, “Sweet” Lou Johnson, Manny Mota, and Derrel Thomas led a clinic on the fields following the dedication.
“The fundamentals that come with the game of baseball are critical components that lead to the success of our youth on and off the field,” said Renata Simril, Senior Vice President, Los Angeles Dodgers and Board Member, Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation. “Dodgers Dreamfields, such as the one here in Highland Park and the many more throughout the Los Angeles region, allow us to utilize baseball as a means to instill important life lessons in our youth while at the same time contribute to the positive development of our communities.”

We are delighted that youngsters will be able to improve their skills and dream of the big leagues at this great facility. We encourage parents and youngsters to maximize the use of the field and to care of it so that it will continue to serve others in the years to come.”
Field improvements at Highland Park Recreation Center’s two fields include new field fencing, improved backstops, new paint on backstops and side fencing, new dugout roofs on the main field, renovated infield surface with laser grading and infield mix, newly installed bases, renovated outfield turf and irrigation system, and a new solar scoreboard and field signage.
