LA84 Foundation and National Junior Tennis & Learning Celebrate Partnership of 28 Consecutive Years
From Mark Winter’s article published in Inside Tennis (April 2013):
Searching for information about the significance of the number 28 was revealing. One Googled site offered, “Twenty-eight is a harmonic divisor number, a happy number, a triangular number, a hexagonal number and a centered nonagonal number.”
For the LA84 Foundation and National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL), the figure is much more significant. In 2013, the two organizations are celebrating the 28th consecutive year of a stellar grassroots partnership. During this period, the Foundation has funded tennis learning opportunities for those between the ages of eight and seventeen, across Southern California.
Patrick Escobar, LA84 Vice President, Grants & Programs, said, “We are pleased to continue support of NJTL. There is no other tennis introductory program in the region that offers so much at Year-Round and summer sites. Because it does, more than 8,500 youngsters learn the fundamentals of tennis. They are taught by coaches who know the game, and have been part of the program for years. They also make a point of offering encouragement and sharing their genuine love of the game.”
“The program has 37 Year-Round sites within the section,” Melanie Bischoff, who is the organizer, said. “During the summer, 130 locations will host NJTL. Participants, including a number from low-income areas, not only learn the game, but they have a chance to establish friendships and grow as individuals.”
