LA84 VP Wayne Wilson Speaks On LA’s 2024 Olympic Bid
In front of a crowd of Olympic academics and enthusiasts alike, Wayne Wilson, LA84 Vice President, Education Services and LA 2024 Community Manager Joslyn Treece spoke on a panel discussion at Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday addressing Los Angeles’ bid for the 2024 Olympic Games. Hosted by CSU Fullerton’s Center for Sociocultural Sport and Olympic Research, the pair discussed Los Angeles’ competition against Paris for the 2024 bid, what is being done by the LA 2024 bid committee ahead of the International Olympic Committee’s September decision on the 2024 host, and how the legacy of the 1984 Olympic Games is still being felt today through the work of the LA84 Foundation.
Funded with the surplus of the 1984 Games in Los Angeles, the LA84 Foundation has impacted over three million youth through its funding of youth sports programs. LA84 is also the premier sports history library, with over 70,000 Olympic and general sports history documents dating back to the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.
