Nearly 1,500 children enjoy the LA84 Foundation’s annual Summer Splash Festivals
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The culmination of one of the LA84 Foundation’s programs was a smashing success.
Approximately 1,500 children between the ages of 7 and 17 participated in the Summer Splash Festivals over the last two weekends at the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center.
This is the 33rd year in a row the LA84 Foundation has helped put on the event, with youngsters getting the opportunity to participate in one of the following: competitive swim, artistic swim, diving and water polo.
Summer Splash is an opportunity for kids to showcase what they have learned in a competitive environment.
This was LA84’s Bettie Williams 15th consecutive year as an organizer.
“Seeing the kids when their eyes light up and they’re able to say, ‘When I started this program, I couldn’t swim. Now I can do a freestyle or a backstroke,’” Williams said. “It’s just the idea of seeing these kids, knowing they’re in a program, that they can start being in one spot, raise their confidence and come out the other end.”
LA84 partners with 14 cities across the Greater Los Angeles Area to augment their existing aquatic programs.
