Olympic Fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad To Speak At LA84 Summit
The LA84 Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of Olympian Ibtihaj Muhammad as a speaker at the foundation’s 5th Annual Youth Sports Summit. Muhammad competed for United States Fencing at the 2016 Rio Olympics, becoming the first female Muslim-American athlete to earn a medal at the Olympic Games. Joining Muhammad will be fellow Rio Olympian Barbaba Nwaba, who competed in the heptathlon for the United States. Nwaba is a Los Angeles native who participated in youth sports programs run by LA’s BEST, a long-time LA84 grantee.
Muhammad and Nwaba will participate in a lunchtime conversation at the Summit hosted by Sage Steele of “NBA Countdown.” They will be joined by a diverse and powerful group of civic leaders and sport executives at the LA84 Foundation Summit, PLAYING FORWARD: The Present and Future of Youth Sports in Los Angeles on October 27, 2016 at the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE. Other speakers include Casey Wasserman, Chairman, LA 2024 Bid Committee; Janet Evans, Olympian & Vice Chair of Athlete Relations, LA 2024; and Luc Robitaille, President of Business Operations and Alternative Governor, Los Angeles Kings.
