Peter Ueberroth Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
Chief organizer of the 1984 Olympic Games and LA84 board member Peter Ueberroth received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Los Angeles Sports Council on February 27, 2017. LA84’s statement on the prodigious honor:
LA84 Foundation President & CEO Renata Simril and the entire LA84 staff congratulate Peter V. Ueberroth on his Lifetime Achievement Award from the Los Angeles Sports Council at the 2016 LA Sports Awards. Peter is a giant in many fields, and remains an inspiration, friend, mentor and hero to so many of us in Southern California and places far beyond, where his ideas and projects are studied and replicated. Without his leadership and vision, LA84 would not exist, and three million youth would not have benefited during these past three decades.
Peter’s extraordinary accomplishments across a wide range of fields are legion – and his humility will surely keep him from mentioning those accomplishments tonight. The chief organizer of the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games and current LA84 board member, Peter’s devotion to the spirit of the Games established Los Angeles as a premier global Olympic city. With his civic-mindedness, charisma and business acumen, he orchestrated the most financially successful Games ever while uniting a city, country and the world behind the Olympic Movement. More than 30 years and an unparalleled career later, we at LA84 are honored to share his vision and his work. We are grateful to know him, and we join tonight in celebrating this extremely well-deserved honor.
