The Girls from Dodson and the Boys from Northridge Win Soccer Championship
The LA84 Foundation/Beyond the Bell Branch Middle School Soccer District-Wide Finals took place Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Marina Del Rey Middle School.
Though the skies were overcast, it did not dampen the spirits of the athletes competing and of the parents/friend present to support their children.
The girls team from Dodson Middle School won out over the team from Carver to win the girls championship. Portola finished in third place by winning over Northridge.
On the boys side, the team from Northridge Middle School earned the boys championship by being victorious in the finals against the team from Bethune. The boys team from Berendo Middle School, which had lost a hotly contested semifinal match against Northridge, came back and won third place by beating the team from Reed. In the semi-finals Reed lost on penalty kicks against Bethune.
The district-wide finals were the culmination of the eight-week soccer program offered at all 95 middle schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District. To earn a spot in finals teams went through rigorous regional tournaments.
Congratulations to all the athletes and coaches who participated in the program and to the Beyond the Bell Branch Middle School Unit for organizing a successful season.
