USA Men’s National Volleyball coach John Speraw headlines Coaches Clinic
LOS ANGELES — This year’s LA84 Foundation’s volleyball Coaches Clinic was the best attended since 2012.
The clinic had 81 people from across Southern California came out to Windward School to learn from some of the best across the region — including USA Men’s National Volleyball coach John Speraw. He was joined by fellow instructors: Cari Klien (Sunshine Volleyball Club Founder and Director, Head Coach Marymount High School), Shari Sakamoto (Head Coach Sunshine 18s), Donna Hess (Instructional Chair, South Bay Volleyball Officials Association, Division I College Referee), Samantha Potter (Assistant Coach West L.A. College, Assistant Director West Volleyball Club) and Chris Austin (Director of Setter College; College, Club and High School Coach).
There were three court sessions, which included: being strong at the seams, rules and refs, excellence in transitions and developing aspirational setters.
Speraw — who also coaches the UCLA Men’s Volleyball — had the crowd in awe during his keynote, which focused on building loyalty among teammates. Speraw led the USA national team to bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He has also won five NCAA Championships, three as a coach and two as a player.
LA84 also offers Coaches Clinics in cross country, soccer and track and field.
