Youngsters Dreaming of Some Day Competing in the Olympic Games Participate in Summer Ending Swim Meet
More than 900 local youngsters, ages 7-17, who have been part of the LA84 Foundation’s Summer Swim Program, will participate in age group races at the LA84 Foundation’s Summer Swim Festival, this Saturday, August 11, 2012. The swim meet will be held at the LA84 Foundation/John C. Argue Swim Stadium at Expo Center. In 1932 this facility was the venue for the swimming events of the Los Angeles Olympic Games. It is located at 3980 Bill Robertson Lane, Los Angeles 90037, next to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The races in free style, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly and relays will be ongoing from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
The LA84 Foundation’s Summer Swim Program is an annual learn-to-swim and novice swim team program for boys and girls. This year more than 10,000 youngsters participated in the program at nearly 100 park pools in the City and County of Los Angeles, and the cities of Burbank, Carson, Glendale, La Mirada, Long Beach, Palmdale, Pasadena, San Buenaventura, Santa Clarita, Santa Monica and South Gate. The LA84 Foundation provides swimming equipment and coaching training for the participating municipalities as well as scholarships for the youngsters in the swim lessons and stroke improvement classes.
